CYBERJAYA, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's 3D animated series, Upin & Ipin today received an award which it won in November last year during the first Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse award, a video festival for children held in the Philippines.
During the festival, Upin & Ipin series producer, Les' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd could not attend as it was the time when the annual Upin & Ipin carnival was held in Malaysia. The festival was held in the Philippines last year in conjunction with the celebration of 50th anniversary of ASEAN. Philippine's Anak TV Inc, which convened the first Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse fesival, today presented the award to Les' Copaque managing director, Burhanuddin Md Radzi in a ceremony held at Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) here today. Anak TV Inc president, Elvira Yap Go when elaborating on Upin & Ipin’s victory for the professional fiction under seven year-old category said, the animated series on the twins promote Asean cultures and values to the world. "Besides teaching children positive values, Upin & Ipin also teach everyone like neighbours and villagers to live peacefully and harmoniously," she added. Les' Copaque in its statement said the award had prompted demand from Philippines television stations to air the series as well as attracting a large number of Filipino followers on its social media. The statement also said that Upin & Ipin would soon penetrate India through Disney Channel India as well as China on its China Central Television (CCTV). The first Southeast Asia Prix Jeunesse was inspired by the events at the Prix Jeunesse International Children's Festival held in Munich, Germany in May 2016, which is the main activity of the Prix Jeunesse Foundation. The Prix Jeunesse Foundation is known internationally for advocating excellence in children's television. (Note: Prix Jeunesse means youth award). -- BERNAMA
