KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- For long-term lung cancer survivors after five years, the emotional effects are seen to be more problematic than the physical effects, based on recent survey data. Licensed clinical social worker and director of Support Initiatives for Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA), Maureen Rigney and her team had led an online survey on the treatment and smoking histories of 820 respondents. “Symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue are just a few of the physical side effects that can occur during and post treatment,” said Rigney. Emotionally, lung cancer stigma and anxiety do not end when the treatment is over, according to her . Of the respondents, 471 self-identified as lung cancer survivors and 349 self-identified as caregivers or the loved ones of lung cancer survivors, with 21 per cent of the survivor respondents indicating they are long-term survivors, diagnosed five or more years ago. In addition to identifying prevalent side effects experienced during treatment, long-term survivors identified the most problematic effects of lung cancer at five or more years post-diagnosis. The most common late and long-term symptoms include shortness of breath (39 per cent), fatigue (28 per cent), short-term memory (27 per cent) and anxiety (25 per cent). The long-term survival rate of those who have been diagnosed with lung cancer continues to increase, calling for additional research to fully understand how to best support this patient population. Patients, survivors and advocates have joined researchers and physicians worldwide to discuss the future of lung cancer at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer’s (IASLC) 19th World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Toronto, Canada from Sept 23 to 26. WCLC is the world’s largest meeting dedicated solely to lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, attracting over 7,000 researchers, physicians and specialists from more than 100 countries. -- BERNAMA KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Abu Dhabi Dubai STOB Series 22 Investment Limited Partnership (AbuDhabi22) and MINDOL Holdings Limited (MINDOL) have agreed for the former to get 33 per cent of cryptocurrency MINDOL (MIN) which MINDOL issued by Tender Offer (TOB).
Both companies chose TOB as strategic approach to make a purchase at a stable price as the acquisition price planned by AbuDhabi22 would be expected to significantly exceed with purchases via regular exchanges. A statement said that currently, the TOB Stage 1 has finished, while TOB is being implemented at the purchase price of TOB Stage 2. The statement added that as a management vision of 2019, MINDOL has targeted a market capitalisation of within 20th place while cryptocurrencies of more than 2000 stocks are listed. The company also set ‘Fusion of subculture and block chain’ as main business, and to develop an online game with a development budget of US$150 million (US$1=RM4.14). Strong battles are expected to occur, as there is an opportunity for the winner to get MIN from the loser. In addition, the company is also planning to develop MINDOL exclusive wallet that can be used on smart phones, and use it for existing projects such as influencer vote and online game to be developed in the future. There is also participation in movies, including Japanese anime, as a new media strategy. It plans to sponsor a Hollywood movie ‘TO DO & DIE’, scheduled to be cranked in 2019 and released worldwide in 2020. Up to 20 photos or videos may be submitted at http://photocontest.cgap.org by Dec 14. CGAP is training its lens on Africa this year because the region is a centre for financial innovation: home to M-Pesa, the mobile money service launched a decade ago and now replicated across markets worldwide; host to vibrant FinTech and e-commerce companies; and a growing off-grid sector that leverages digital finance. Together these innovators contribute toward lifting many thousands of households from poverty. “We look forward to submissions that capture in a powerful way both the challenges and opportunities of extending financial services to all,” said CGAP chief executive officer, Greta Bull, in a statement today. The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers and videographers who can visually tell the story of how financial services empower poor people and communities in three categories: reaching excluded people, brighter prospects for young people, and digital finance and development. The grand prize winners -- one each in photo and video -- will be awarded US$2,000 (US$1 = RM4.13) gift certificates for photography or video equipment. Additional winners in each of the three categories will receive gift certificates of up to US$1,000.
